Who is responsible
Tech Bus Stop is the controller of personal data collected through this website and the programs or events it operates. Where an event is co-hosted, the registration notice will identify any partner that separately determines how data is used. Privacy questions can be submitted through Contact Us using “Privacy request”.
Information we collect
We may collect details you provide when joining a cohort, registering for an event, subscribing, volunteering, partnering or contacting us. This can include your name, email address, professional profile, interests, accessibility needs and application responses.
We also receive technical data such as device and browser type, approximate location derived from network information, pages viewed, consent choices and security logs. If you connect LinkedIn or X, we receive only the profile identifiers, verification result and limited profile fields described before connection; we do not receive your password.
Sources and sensitive information
Information comes from you, a connected account you authorise, mentors or assessors recording progress, event and payment providers, and delivery partners. Accessibility, safeguarding or conduct information may be sensitive. We request only what is needed, restrict access and use it for support, safety or legal obligations.
How we use information
- To administer programs, cohorts, events and applications.
- To verify eligibility or a connected professional profile when a registration requires it.
- To send confirmations, schedule changes, reminders and service messages.
- To improve our learning experiences, safety and community operations.
- To take payments, prevent abuse, protect systems and resolve complaints.
- To send optional news or opportunities where you have consented.
Legal bases
Depending on the activity, we process information to perform a contract or take requested pre-contract steps; with consent; to comply with law; to protect vital interests; for tasks in the public interest where applicable; or for legitimate interests such as service improvement, fraud prevention and community safety, balanced against your rights.
Sharing and international transfers
We may share the minimum necessary information with hosting, email, analytics, payment, identity or profile-verification vendors; mentors and assessors; venues and event partners; professional advisers; and public authorities where law or safety requires it. Providers act under contractual restrictions. If information is transferred outside Nigeria, we use a lawful transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards.
Retention
Registration and attendance records are normally retained for up to three years after the relevant experience; assessment and credential records for up to seven years where needed to verify achievement; unsuccessful applications for up to twelve months; marketing records until withdrawal plus a minimal suppression record; and security or consent logs for as long as needed to demonstrate compliance. A longer period may apply to disputes, safeguarding matters, finance or legal requirements.
Security
We use proportionate access controls, encryption in transit, backups, logging, vendor review and staff confidentiality measures. No system is completely secure. If a breach is likely to create a risk, we will investigate, mitigate and notify affected people or the Nigeria Data Protection Commission when required.
Your rights
Subject to the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and applicable exceptions, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or information about processing; object to certain processing; withdraw consent without affecting earlier lawful use; and ask for review of a decision based solely on automated processing. We may verify identity and normally respond within the legally required period.
Children
General services are intended for adults. A program expressly open to minors will use an age-appropriate notice and obtain required parent or guardian authorisation. Contact us if you believe a child submitted information outside an approved experience.
Complaints
Please contact us first so we can investigate. You may also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission. This does not limit any right to seek another lawful remedy.
Contact
Questions or privacy requests can be submitted through our contact page. We may update this policy when our services or legal obligations change and will highlight material changes where appropriate.
